End of an era as Age of Empires discontinued

As of today, the classic real-time strategy game Age of Empires III (2007) will no longer be available for purchase, marking the end of an era for the beloved title.

The decision to retire the game from sale comes after many years of support from its developers. However, Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, a modernised version of the game, will continue to be available and supported.

In a significant change for long-time players, the game’s online multiplayer services will be discontinued on October 30, 2024, at 10 AM PT.

This decision is due to the technology powering the multiplayer servers no longer being supported.

For those who already own Age of Empires III, the game’s single-player campaign and skirmish modes will remain accessible. However, the online multiplayer features will no longer function after this date.

Fans looking to continue their experience in the Age of Empires universe can do so with Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, available on Steam and the Windows Store.

The Definitive Edition offers upgraded graphics, enhanced gameplay, and four DLC expansions, adding new civilizations and campaigns.

A free trial of the game is also available on Steam for new players looking to experience the game before committing to a purchase.
