In a significant move that marks the end of an era for gamers, Microsoft has declared its plans to shut down the digital Xbox 360 Store, effective from July 29, 2024.

This decision will bring an end to the availability of game purchases, downloadable content (DLC), and other digital assets through the Xbox 360 console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace.

Until the slated closure date in 2024, gamers will retain the privilege of purchasing their favourite games and downloadable content from the digital store.

Dave McCarthy, Corporate Vice President of Xbox Player Services, assured users that the forthcoming change would not hamper their ability to enjoy Xbox 360 games or previously procured DLC.

He emphasised that the content already acquired would remain accessible for gameplay not only on the Xbox 360 console but also seamlessly on the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices, thanks to the platforms’ backward compatibility features.

This transition is expected to leave multiplayer modes for Xbox 360 titles unaffected, provided that the respective publishers choose to sustain the functionality. Microsoft encourages gaming communities to stay connected and informed regarding the continuity of these multiplayer options.

Post the closure on July 29, 2024, players will still have avenues to explore, with the opportunity to purchase backward-compatible Xbox 360 titles, original Xbox games, and accompanying DLC on the Xbox One, Xbox X|S consoles, as well as through the official Xbox website.

For any further developments and updates regarding this significant transition, players are encouraged to stay tuned to official Xbox communications channels and announcements.
