Sony unveils PlayStation VR2 headset
05/01/2022Sony has officially revealed its next generation of hardware with its PlayStation VR2 headset, along with its VR2 Sense controller.
Lauded to take “VR gaming to a whole new level” Sony stated that its new products will enable a “greater sense of presence” whilst allowing players to “escape into game worlds like never before”.
The PlayStation VR2 headset features a 4K HDR panel running at 90/120Hz as well as a 110-degree field of view.
In a statement on Sony’s official website, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Experience, stated: “It is my great pleasure to start off 2022 with news on our next generation virtual reality system for the PS5 console, starting with the official name: PlayStation VR2, and our new VR controller, PlayStation VR2 Sense controller.
“PlayStation VR2 takes VR gaming to a whole new level, enabling a greater sense of presence and allowing players to escape into game worlds like never before. With the headset on and controllers in hand, players will feel a heightened range of sensations unlike any other – thanks to the creativity of the game worlds being built by our world class developers, and the latest technology incorporated into the hardware.
“Building upon our innovations from PS5, PlayStation VR2 adds a true next-gen experience with high-fidelity visuals, new sensory features, and enhanced tracking – along with a simplified single-cord setup.”
Alongside visual improvements, the VR2 headset is said to have improved sensory features, as well as eye-tracking, headset feedback, and 3D audio. Moreover, the headset will include a full inside-out tracking.
Sony has not yet announced a price or a release date for the PlayStation VR2 headset.
