The virtual world of Old School RuneScape (OSRS) is set to become even more thrilling as the Summer Summit, held over the weekend, revealed a plethora of exciting updates and events that will have players immersed in new adventures.

The summit highlighted the return of beloved limited events, the introduction of a lock-in poll for OSRS’ highly anticipated new skill, Sailing, and a tantalising glimpse of a content-rich area known as Varlamore.

In an unprecedented move, the Sailing skill update is poised to offer the largest area expansion in RuneScape history. The vast open ocean will evolve into a fully explorable environment, catering to players’ yearning for seafaring adventures.

Customisable ships will feature an array of facilities designed for training the Sailing skill, enabling players to advance from captaining modest vessels to commanding grander ones. The Sailing lock-in poll is now open for voting.

A lock-in vote will allow players to provide their feedback, and if the vote passes, Sailing will proceed into full-fledged development, inching closer to its beta phase.

Adding to the excitement, the Summer Summit heralded the return of the highly competitive Deadman Apocalypse variant to OSRS. This variant plunges players into a cutthroat competition where they must start from scratch and contend against both fellow players and fearsome monsters to acquire valuable loot and exclusive rewards.

The game mode introduces breaches, spawning potent bosses across the world. These treacherous hotspots are poised to become battlegrounds for intense player-versus-player encounters.

Deadman Apocalypse commences on August 25 and runs through September 16, with a substantial prize pool of $25,000 up for grabs.

Leagues enthusiasts have reason to rejoice as well, with the announcement of Leagues 4: Trailblazer Reloaded making a grand entrance to OSRS. This limited-time event strips players of their items and experience, thrusting them into Gielinor with boosted XP, enhanced drop rates, and a bespoke task list.

The challenge comes with the allure of unlocking powerful relics as players navigate through the adventurous landscape. Leagues 4: Trailblazer Reloaded boasts an array of fresh tasks, relics, and areas, including previously unreleased regions like the Desert Area, which now houses Tempoross, Tombs of Amascut, and Desert Treasure II.

Wrapping up the roster of announcements, Old School RuneScape announced its next grand area expansion: Varlamore. This secluded kingdom promises a wealth of new content, including bosses, skilling activities, the introduction of the Hunting Guild, and engaging quests.

The scale of Varlamore’s offerings is such that content will be rolled out across multiple game updates. The first of these updates is anticipated in early 2024, bringing with it two new quests that kickstart a brand-new storyline.
